Environmental Industry Associations Honors Gordon Shaw with Life Time Achievement Award

Press Release - Mar 28, 2006

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, April 5, Gordon Shaw, President, Marathon Equipment Co., Vernon, Alabama, will be inducted into the Environmental Industry Associations’ Hall of Fame. EIA is the non–profit trade association that represents for–profit companies in the waste service and equipment industry throughout North America. The EIA Hall of Fame is for industry leaders who over the course of more than 25 years have made significant contributions to both the industry and the community.

"I believe a large part of our corporate responsibility is to become involved in community activities so I’ve worked for the Mark Mitchell Shelter for battered women for years and supported the Catch a Dream Foundation for children with life threatening diseases who want to catch a fish or go hunting," said Gordon Shaw. Shaw became President of Marathon Equipment Co. in 2003 moving up the line from the time he first started in 1981 as a sales person. He entered the waste business at an early age when he and his college roommate started a hauling company just after graduation. Along with his company leadership and community service, he currently serves on the EIA Board of Trustees and has been a very active WASTEC member, serving as its chairman for two terms and helping to develop ANSI standards for waste equipment safety. Shaw played a major role in guiding organizational changes at EIA, including sale of WasteExpo, and developing a strategic plan.

"We are pleased to recognize Gordon for his life–time of dedicated service to the waste industry," says Bruce Parker, EIA’s President and CEO. "He is extremely well–respected at both the local and national levels."

The awards ceremony will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, as part of the waste industry’s national trade show, WasteExpo 2006
